Follower of a Star

Wow. It has been an honor and a privilege to read and share your stories over the past few weeks. I have been inspired by each one of you.  Thank you!   As my Christmas gift to you, I would like to share a poem by my late father, the Rev. A. Dale Catlin:

Follower of a star

Let it not be said
I have kept the wind to my back
Rather I have followed a star.

From the high call of holy vision
To the night of the waiting wind
Singing its sad song
Through the lonely pines
From the dead end street
Of the dying city
To the creeping blight
Of a high rise world
Without love
I have followed a star.

I envy no man his way
For I have seen with my own eyes
The shining mountains
Have known the clear sharp vista
Of a new thought
Have heard the distant music of spring
Sing its magic song
To a frozen waterfall.
I have felt the keening wind of adventure
And the poignant loveliness of solitude
I envy no man his way.

The somber wilderness has nourished me
The restless city has called
Yet though a seeker beckoned
By far horizons
I have known love
Have seen a baby smile
And am content
To be a follower of a star.
